Don't Let Dieting Impact Your Oral Health

Like many people who need to lose a few pounds, I try diet after diet in an attempt to find one that finally works for me. I learned the hard way that I need to make sure any diet will not harm my teeth, even if it does help me lose a few pounds. I learned this lesson when following a grapefruit diet. There are many versions of this, but the version I tried had me eat a grapefruit alone several times each day. It was supposed to suppress my appetite. I helped keep me from munching on unhealthy snacks, but the acid in the fruit took a toll on my tooth enamel and I quickly started getting lots of cavities. I created this blog to remind people that change up their diets often to make sure the foods they are eating are not harming their teeth.

Have Sensitive Teeth? Know These Natural Ways To Resolve Sensitivity

Do you have issues with aching teeth after eating ice cream and other cold foods, or do you experience sharp pains when brushing your teeth? It could be due to teeth sensitivity. While this is a common problem that millions deal with every single day, it can be caused by many things. It could be thin enamel, gum disease, tooth decay, and even exposed roots. Every one of these problems can contribute to causing pain. Thankfully, there are some natural options for treating sensitive teeth.

Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is a method that helps remove bacteria and toxins from your body, which can contribute to problems with gum disease. Oil pulling can also improve the strength of your teeth over time. If you want to try oil pulling, you just need to follow a few simple steps.

Measure out about half a tablespoon of sesame oil, then swish it around inside your mouth. Do this for approximately 15 minutes. Don't spit out the oil in your sink since it will not be good for your drains, but spit into a container to put in the trash instead. Rinse out your mouth using warm water, and then brush your teeth.

By removing the bacteria, it should help reduce issues with gum disease. As a result, you'll have less sensitive teeth.

Cinnamon

Another trick is to use cinnamon to reduce teeth sensitivity by reducing bacteria in your mouth and helping with gum disease side effects. Cinnamon also helps with protecting the enamel on the surface of your teeth.

Pour water into a pot, approximately 2 cups, and add 4-6 cinnamon sticks to it. Boil it all for half an hour. Let the water cool off, and then rinse out your mouth using the mixture of water and cinnamon.

Remineralizing Toothpaste

Tooth enamel erosion is a common problem for teeth sensitivity, which is typically because of aggressive brushing or eating foods that are very acidic. You can make your own toothpaste with remineralizing properties by combining these ingredients.

  • Calcium powder (5 tbsp)
  • Baking soda (2 tbsp)
  • Coconut oil (5 tbsp)
  • Castile soap (1 tsp)
  • Peppermint oil (10 drops)

Simply combine these ingredients into a jar to make the toothpaste. Apply a small amount to your toothbrush when brushing your teeth, and it should help reduce sensitivity.
